From the Director of Boarding
Dear TGS Boarding Community
As Term 2 draws to a close, I’d like to thank you all for your support of the boarding program. Earlier in the week we had a very productive Boader Parents' Support Group (BPSG) meeting. I am looking forward to reporting back to our community in Term 3 on the variety of topics that were discussed.
The end of the term means that we bid farewell to Mr Henry White. He has cared for the boarders in Corfe House since Term 3, 2022. The entire boarding community bade him farewell in the Dining Hall on Monday night. I wish to thank Riley G, Charlie B and Will M for their speeches to Mr White on the night. With the arrival of this year’s Corfe intake, there are more boys in boarding that have had the privilege of having Mr White as a housemaster than not. Mr White’s legacy, particularly the Year 10 Leadership Residency, will be remembered fondly.
In Term 3 we will warmly welcome Mr Nathan Stains into the role. He will move into the Corfe residence with his wife, son and daughter over the holidays. Corfe families will have the opportunity to meet Mr Stains and his family on Monday, 14 July when we return to School. There will be drinks and a sausage sizzle in the Corfe courtyard from 4:00pm. A reminder will be sent over the holidays.
Academic support has remained a key focus this term, with the targeted Mathematics masterclasses led by Mr Eugene Seddon being well received by the boys. The access to private tutoring was also appreciated and these sessions will run again in Term 3. I will send a specific email out to boarding families once I have the booking system organised.
The weekend activities program continues to be a favourite among the boys. Last Sunday’s trip to Dreamworld was a thrilling experience, with the rollercoasters providing the opportunity for our boarders to test their courage. It was wonderful to see the boys enjoying themselves and building lasting memories with their peers.
Over the holiday break, the long-awaited installation of the ventilation and air conditioning system in the Groom – Stephens building will occur. It is a long-awaited upgrade that will greatly enhance comfort for our boarders.
Overall, despite a disrupted start to the term with several short weeks, our boarders settled into routine and embraced the opportunities available to them this term and they have certainly earned a break. Their involvement in co-curricular activities has been outstanding, with strong participation in football, tennis and pre-season rugby and basketball. A special highlight was the School musical, Midnight: The Cinderella Musical, where our Senior Boarding Prefect, Rupeni, delivered a standout performance as the King, an occasion that filled our community with pride.
Thank you for your continued support and engagement. Wishing you and your families a restful and enjoyable holiday break.
