From the Director of Boarding
Term 3 has begun with some wonderful news for our boarding community.
I would like to warmly congratulate the Head of Boyce House, John Troxler and his wife Meg on the arrival of their first child, a daughter, Grace Cooper Troxler. Congratulations also to the Assistant Head of Corfe House, Jack Carr and his wife Georgia on the birth of their first child, also a daughter, Juliette Leona Carr.
We are delighted to report that both mothers and babies are doing well and the entire TGS community is thrilled for both families as they begin this exciting new chapter.
Term 3 is often regarded as the most demanding term of the school year and it will be important for our boarders to establish and maintain strong routines from the outset. High expectations remain at the centre of our boarding program and we are encouraging every boy to make the most of the semester, both in the classroom and beyond. For our senior students in particular, the reality of external examinations is fast approaching. Developing consistent study habits, seeking support when required and maintaining focus throughout the term will be critical to achieving their academic goals.
The demands of Term 3 extend well beyond the classroom. Many of our boys are heavily involved in rugby and basketball, balancing training sessions, travel and competition commitments alongside their academic responsibilities. At the same time, a number of students have been representing the School through bands and ensembles, with several groups competing at the Eisteddfod this week. The willingness of our boarders to embrace such a broad range of opportunities is one of the great strengths of our community and it is encouraging to see so many striving for excellence across multiple areas of school life.
Term 3 is also an important time for community engagement. One of the great strengths of TGS Boarding is the sense of connection between families, students and staff. The Sundowner and home game this weekend will provide a valuable opportunity for parents to catch up with one another and with boarding staff while supporting the boys in action. We look forward to welcoming many families back to the School and continuing to strengthen the relationships that are so important to the success of our boarding community.
Personally, the past few weeks have provided several opportunities to promote TGS Boarding and connect with families. I have been on the road attending boarding school expos, as well as representing the School at the Federal ICPA Conference on the Gold Coast. These have been highly productive and I have greatly appreciated the opportunity to catch up with current families, Old Boys and prospective families. The strong support and advocacy for TGS Boarding continue to be a source of great pride and I look forward to building on those connections throughout the remainder of the term.
